The National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) has formally applied for the extradition of embattled
Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu to the US.
The agency said further that the
notice of said application had been served on Kashamu.
This was disclosed on Tuesday, June
2, 2015, by NDLEA spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju.
“In an application made to the Chief
Judge, Federal High Court, Abuja, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015, the
office of the Attorney General of the Federation is seeking the extradition of
Buruji Kashamu to answer alleged drug trafficking charges,” Ofoyeju said according to The Nation.
“This is in line with the
Extradition Act CAP, E25 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (as modified by
Extradition Act Modification Order, 2014). The notice of the suit was
officially served on Kashamu by the NDLEA on June 1, 2015,” he added.
The NDLEA had launched a siege on
Kashamu’s Lekki, Lagos home on Saturday, May 23, but failed to secure an arrest
for lack of a warrant.
A Federal High Court subsequently
urged officials of the agency to vacate Kashamu’s home pending the
determination of a suit instituted by him.
